Gbenga Daniel Snubs S/West PDP Caucus Meeting

Governor Gbenga Daniel yesterday shunned a meeting that the South-West caucus of the Peoples Democracy Party, PDP, convened to endorse a Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives in the next session.
Daniel, who was absent, neither gave any reason nor sent a representative to the meeting where Muraina Ajibola was picked as Dimeji Bankole’s successor.
Those who were present at the meeting held at the hill-top residence of the former president, Olusegun Obansanjo, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, included the outgoing governor of Oyo State, Christopher Alao-Akala, former Governor Segun Oni of Ekiti State and other former governors of the party in the zone.
The meeting was also an opportunity for the party members to deliberate on the level of progress concerning petitions it filed before various tribunals, challenging the outcome of the just concluded general elections.
Ajibola, who was picked for the position of the Speaker, hails from Ibarapa in Oyo State.
The source who spoke about the meeting with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said: “With an experienced legislator like Ajibola, he is sure to hold all the members of the House together, he will not just be learning the ropes.”
According to former Governor Oni, “the meeting is a continuation of the past ones on how to move the party forward in the region.”
Governor Daniel has been having a running battle with the former president leading to the defeat of his men in the just concluded general elections.
His minions contested under the platform of Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN. Daniel was said to have formed the party on the eve of the general elections to weaken PDP in Ogun State; a goal he achieved with the trouncing of PDP by ACN in the polls.
He is also being allegedly investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over cases of alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the state.
