It is with almost humility and Joy in my heart that I commemorate with all the new intakes as they take their matriculation oath. I will use this media to inform you that in our institution (University of Calabar), it is one among the famous Federal university in Nigeria with a peaceful and ambient environment known for academic in all discipline. I implore all of you to key into the peaceful administration of our amiable Vice Chancellor, Prof. James Epoke by abiding by the university rules and regulation in other to create a dynamic environment. I charge you as you take the oath to respect the constituted authority by obeying the rules and regulation enshrined in the constitution of Students’ Union Government. We have all facilities that will build up your future careers. Take your studies serious and eschew social vices that can truncate your academic activities.

Teach them to observe routines as related to co-habitation, relationships with co-students both within and outside the university precinct all worthwhile. It is equally worthy of note to engineer them into detaching themselves from wanton and fragrant indoctrination, doldrums of negative and retrospective stories they might have heard about the university.

To all matriculants, it is expedient you allow the university to pass through you even as you pass through the university because the certificate in view would be rewarded after you have been scrutinized and found worthy in character and learning, hence shunning social vices remains the panacea for giant strides. This citadel is a heterogeneous mixture; you can only progress when you say no to ethnocentrism, tribalism, despotism and nepotism because these negate national integration and federal character.
