LASU Students In Court for Impersonating Naval Officers
Eight Lagos State University students appeared in court on Tuesday
for impersonating Nigerian Navy officers and threatening policemen at
Ojo Police Division.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court heard how Etim Okon, Moruf Adegbite, Victor Nwoakoro, Tajudeen Adigun, Busayo Ibikunle, Oluwatosin Campbell, and Idris Abubakar, in their fake uniforms threatened a police officer on duty for arresting fellow student, Badmos Ishola.
According to reports, the prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emeurhi, said on June 21, 2013, Badmos Ishola was detained for impersonating an officer of the Nigerian Navy .
“On that day, other accused students went to the police station in Ojo and threatened the police officer on duty for arresting Ishola. They wore naval uniforms and conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace,” he said.
They all were arraigned on two counts of impersonation and breach of peace as Emeurhi highlighted that the defendants contravened Section 44 (4), 77 (a) (b), Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The students have pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, B.O Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety each in like sum. She adjourned the case till July 24, 2013.
