Family Of 3 Escapes As Car Plunges Into Ditch
Three family members, comprising father,
mother and a child, narrowly escaped being killed Wednesday night when a
jeep they were travelling in plunged into a ditch near Dabi village,
along Gwagwalada-Lokoja road.
A witness said the incident happened
around .....9: 14 pm when a Toyota Jeep with registration number EF 638 PHC being driven by its owner along with his family members, plunged into a deep ditch allegedly dug by a construction company working on the road.
The witness said the jeep was coming from the Lokoja axis and the driver, who was on high speed, did not notice that there was a diversion from the old road to the new lane by the construction company and he suddenly fell into the ditch.
He said the driver and two of his family members in the car escaped unhurt.
Our reporter, who visited the scene yesterday morning, saw people discussing how the occupants managed to escape the crash, while officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were making efforts to remove the car from the pit.
When contacted, Gwagwalada FRSC unit commander, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, confirmed the accident and said all the occupants of the vehicle escaped unhurt.
He further disclosed that a driver was seriously injured on Saturday evening in another accident that occurred at Ido village, along Giri-Airport road.
The unit commander said the accident involved a Toyota Camry with registration number XC 926 ABC and a Daf Tanker with registration number XD 259 MNN.
He said the car driver, who sustained serious injuries was rescued and taken to University of Abuja Teaching Hospital at Gwagwalada for medical attention.
