Pregnant Woman, 7 Others Died In Osun Auto Crash
Tragedy struck early Monday morning, when eight persons, including a pregnant woman, lost their lives in an auto crash, which occurred along Gbongan/Ibadan express road in Osogbo, Osun State.Credible source informed our correspondent that the victims of the auto crash were traders going from Ede to Owode via Osogbo. occurred at about 6.40 a.m. It was learnt that the accident which involved three different vehicles, happened when a blue Gulf car with registration number AG 19 EDE coming from the direction of Ede somersaulted and landed on an ash coloured Kia car with registration number KUJ 74 AJ while a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XR 930 ABC stumbled on them.An eye witness at the scene of the accident informed Nigerian Tribune that charred bodies of the victims littered the scene of the accident until officials of the Osun Ambulance service arrived to pack them into the ambulance.Investigations indicated that the accident paralysed commercial activities in the area as many traders who had gone to the popular Owode market to which the deceased were headed to when the tragic accident occurred returned home as a mark of honour for the victims.While confirming the incident, Osun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Imoh Etuk disclosed that corpses of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.He hinted that the officials of the FRSC in collaboration with the Osun State Ambulance Service, O’Ambulance, and the Police promptly rescued the accident victims and rushed them to the hospital where they were confirmed dead.Etuk said the identities of the victims could not be ascertained yet, adding that officials of the FRSC were intensifying efforts to contact relatives of the victims through the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).He, however, cautioned drivers against high speed, just as he charged them to observe all precautionary measures while on highways to avoid needless loss of lives and properties.
