Fighting Godfathers In Campus Politics Not An Easy Task – NUESA President
Kadiri Abib AbdulBerki, popularly known as Zanga 400level Electrical Electronics Engineering, is the newly elected president of the National Universities Engineering Students Association(NUESA) at the Federal University of Technology (FUT Minna), Niger state.
He told Ajobiewe Tolulope ( 400- Level Urban and regional planning) the challenges he faced during his campaign..........
Why are you into campus politics?
I will say I am from a politically buoyant home, in fact my father is an active PDP member in Lagos state, and from childhood I have been witnessing transformation of different governments and ever since then I took interest in politics just for humanitarian reasons because I believe politics is the only way in which I can personally impact a change in a society. Apart from that my belief is that politics involves power and you will agree with me that without power the transformation process and progress in a society can be hindered or delayed.
As the new president elect of NUESA how do you feel?
I feel very happy and give almighty Allah for granting me the much anticipated victory.
What are your plans for NUESA?
I always tell my fellow engineers that engineers don’t talk much, my plan for NUESA during this period of my administration will be to give the association a total face-lift in the aspect of students welfare and academics.
What fulfillments would you like to be known for after your tenure as the NUESA president? I will want to be remembered for my truthfulness, transparency and accountability while in office.
How would you describe godfathers in campus politics?
I will say the issue of godfathers is everywhere, you cannot have a society devoid of political godfathers they will always exist. Again i must also say that it was part of the challenges I faced during my campaign days, working and campaigning against the so called political godfathers was not something easy, but one thing is always sure and that is the fact that once a candidate is the people’s choice then the contenders victory is certain. Along the struggle, I learnt that as a politician you need to hope for the best and have faith that best shall come your way.
Have you any ambition of taking your politicking after graduation to the next level?
Yes I do.
Thanks its nice having you around.
