Private school pupils donate N5m to OAU

Pupils of Sunshine Primary School, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have donated N.5m to Obafemi Awolowo University as part of their contribution to the 50th anniversary of the institution.
The pupils, who presented the cheque to the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Prof. Bamitale Omole, raised the fund for the donation through their parents.
The Proprietress of the school and former Chairman of the Great Ife Alumni (home branch), Mrs. Bisi Anyadike, explained the donation was in fulfilment of a promise made by one of the pupils that they would raise N.5m for OAU during the institution’s 50th anniversary.
“When one of the pupils said they wish to donate half a million to OAU, we all thought it is a childish rascality. We tried to work on it and the pupils through their parents made it a reality. It is my pleasure that my pupils, today, are donating to my Alma Mata,” she said.
In his reaction, the VC, who described the donation as “a rare reality,” commended the pupils for their contribution.
Omole advised adults to emulate the good gesture of the children.
He said, “It is unbelievable that children could contribute this much from a private school and hand it over to a Federal Government-owned university for its development.
“If it were to be in a movie or children’s movie, one would have said that the mental faculty of the playwright is running haywire. But here, in Ife, the first of its kind I have ever witnessed in my entire life. On behalf of the senate, management, members of staff and students of this university, I thank you all.”
